Here’s is a simple recipe and instructions for making dandelion wine.
You’ll need:
2 quarts of dandelion petals-no green parts
1 gallon of filtered water
4 cups of sugar or 3 cups of honey
The juice of 1 lemon
The juice of 1 orange (some people prefer to shave and add peel as well)
1 (5gr) package of wine yeast
1 tsp yeast nutrient (optional)
1 large pot
A fermentation vessel with fermentation airlock
sterilized wine bottles with corks
Pick 2 quarts of yellow dandelions-no green parts. Rinse. Add to 1 gallon of boiling water and steep covered for 2-3 days, strain and remove petals. Add sugar (or honey). Bring to a boil for 10 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Cool to 90 °F or lower, then add fruit and wine yeast. 1 teaspoon of yeast nutrient optional. Pour into fermentation vessel with airlock. When the bubbling has stopped (about 2-3 weeks), siphon the liquid off the top without disturbing the sediment on the bottom. Dispose of the sediment. Pour liquid into sterilized jars, jugs or bottles. Do not use tight fitting lids until you’re sure all fermentation (bubbling) has stopped to prevent the bottles from popping or exploding. Store for 2 months to 2 years in a cool, dark place before serving.
